Zdenko Machala's scientific focus is on non-thermal (cold) plasmas of electrical discharges in ambient air and in contact with liquids, plasma-liquid interactions, their advanced diagnostics, and development of their applications in environmental sciences, chemistry, biomedicine, and agriculture e.g. for flue gas cleaning, water and surface decontamination, wound healing, anticancer effects, and plant growth stimulation. He established the plasma-biomedical interdisciplinary research area in Slovakia (since 2005). He has been a PI and vice-PI of more than 16 interational and national research projects. He is an editor of 1 monograph, author of 2 monograph chapters, over 80 peer-reviewed journal papers, and many conference contributions including >30 invited lectures.
